there is a story about Arturito in which he undergoes nose surgery to look like his dog; another in which he pays for a farmhand’s training as a dancer; and yet another in which he wakes up in the middle of the night to liberate a lamb destined to become the Paschal lamb—in the form of a traditional roast. Arturito appears as a character in Manuel Mujica Láinez’s Invitados en el Paraíso; he makes a brief appearance in Sylvia Molloy’s El común olvido and in Leopoldo Marechal’s Adán Buenosayres. yet he remains indifferent to these appearances and seems never to have read the books in question. - María Moreno
