book tornasol ALICIA MARES
in Tornasol, children and women marked by loss take center stage through nine tales of horror, mystery, and fantasy that unfold in the cold villages of the Tlaxcala highlands, the sanctuaries of Michoacán, or the highways of Veracruz. the fervor for memory barely diminishes the shiver generated by the enigmas, or the darkness that childhood can hold. road trips, rites of transformation, unexpected alliances with sea creatures, pacts with magical beings, the glow of a fire, natural disasters, and tiny miracles; these are the catalysts that bring back the wonder and fear of childhood. the omnipresent presence of loss is cast in a new light, creating a new kind of iridescence. Alicia Mares, through her agile and vivid narrative, is able to create captivating worlds that transport us from the most serene tenderness to the most unsettling nightmare.
